Okay, it's been explained to me that there might have been some "cheating" involved in making this, something about emulators and "freezing" action. HOWEVER, I don't care, it's still amazing.
Super Mario Brothers 3 (from start to finish) in 11 minutes
NESVideos has a good site with a good explanation of how such videos are made.
I was introduced to a pretty cool website this past weekend by another car guy. I had never even heard of it but I get the impression it's quite popular.
It's full of auto-related videos. Some hot, some not but plenty for any kind of enthusiast. Yes, there are illegal street racing videos but there are also plenty of other videos of just track races and dragstrip action.
'Tis the time of year when all things automotive start to bloom :-)
I happen to know this guy who has become, over years of emasculation at the hands of one particular woman (a description for which I cannot take credit), one of the biggest pacifists I know.
I have nothing against pacifists, Quakers, monks, nuns or any other people who just generally avoid confrontation or conflict.
I also happen to know this guy who, as his formal education has progressed, has become one of the most defensive and combative people I know with his written words and via verbal communications. Think of it as communication anytime that the other participating parties are not physically present.
I have nothing against passionate people who even tend to be exactingly critical, defensive, combative and sometimes even malicious.
My issue is with this simple fact: it's the same person.
I really don't know how he does it. To say that it's difficult to draw lines between methods of communication in today's super-connected world of technology is a bit of an understatement.
I will continue to reciprocate as best I can and hope that I can keep it all straight. I'd hate to get combative or confrontational in writing or through a voice chat and then accidentally carry that over to when I see him in person.
I guess it wouldn't be a real problem anyway if I did get confused for a moment and confronted him in person. Odds are (and history has shown) that he'll just go away.
I was behind a car with a New Hampshire license plate today on my way to work. It said "Live Free or Die".
No one I know gives a lot of repect to the state of New Hampshire but, c'mon, that's a bad ass motto. Without knowing too many others, I'm prepared to declare it the best state motto in the US. Any thoughts?
This might help ... List of State Mottos
Half the people in any given group are below average.
Look around the room. Where do you stand?
This was spurred by a recent conversation I had while at a client ... if you could own any box set, what would it be? Responses can include:
TV, DVD, CD, book, periodical, etc.
A box set that is or is not currently for sale.
A box set that you already own.
Any collection, compilation, compendium, etc. that you feel is worth owning above all others.
To the best of my estimation, there are two kinds of people;
those that watch American Idol and those that don't.
I hate very few things in this world but ...
I HATE AMERICAN IDOL!!!
Seriously.
Negative National Savings Rate
For only the third time in documented American history, the national savings rate was NEGATIVE last year. The other two times were 1932 and 1933 which were explained in the article as "repercussions of the Great Depression".
Try to imagine, for a second, that Social Security will be insufficient for anyone under Baby Boomer age and that the vogue idea in national retirement funding has been to allow Americans the ability to manage their own savings. It certainly should be interesting, huh?
Alright, I never intended to watch the Oscars last night but I somehow managed to see a good 75% of the broadcast. I'm going to keep my thoughts to myself on the whole "Awards Show" scene and keep this post to the movies themselves. Actually, it's not so much a post as a poll (do your best to contain your surprise). SO, let's get to it ...
What critically acclaimed movie is the most overrated movie you have ever seen? I'll leave it open to ANY movie from any genre, time period, subject matter, language, length, etc.. I'm having a hard time narrowing my choices down and if you are too, make it a "Top 3" if you want.
When faced with the harsh reality that you're not particularly good at something, you have two choices in order to improve your position.
1) Work to be better.
2) Surround yourself with people that are worse than you are.
There's really no story behind this ... just an observation over the years.
