to live

What I do for a living is very different from what I live to do.

there's always a bigger fish

I was just in a conversation with a guy who pretty much totaled a woman's Ford Probe with his big-ass pickup truck last night. He was spouting on and on about how happy he was that he drove a big-ass truck and that he made his wife get an SUV as well instead of the car she used to drive. This is all so they'll be "safer" ... apparently for THEMSELVES.

Regardless of whose fault the accident was in this case, the next accident might be their fault and then their big-ass vehicle will be nothing more than a big-ass weapon that will do someone else some serious harm.

I tried to explain the "big picture" of everyone just buying bigger and bigger vehicles to be "safer". I tried to explain the advances in material science in the auto industry and newer crash test standards and ratings to counter his "my old AMC was a tank" argument but, to no avail. He even openly admitted disbelief in global warming or any other negative environmental impacts from driving gas-guzzling vehicles himself or for everyone. That's not even mentioning that it fosters dependence on foreign countries to provide us the resources to drive these vehicles regularly.

What gets me the most ... given all of the aformentioned points ... is that he truly doesn't get the "there's always a bigger fish in the pond" concept. Sure, his truck might be bigger than some but it's certainly not as big (comparatively to newer trucks) as it used to be. The Escalade alone has grown by over a foot!!!

retro tv poll

Okay, what's your favorite 80's cartoon? I can't believe I've never polled this topic! I know this might be tough so go ahead and give me a top three if you prefer.

have a happy one

Happy Valentine's Day everybody. For the holiday, I've taken the time to actually POST something. I know, I know ... it's not a REAL post but it's a POLL which everyone seems to like more anyway. SO, in the spirit of things ...

What's your favorite love-story-type movie? Some might call them chick-flicks, or just sappy, romantic, heart-warming, etc. I think you get the idea. Feel free to choose from any decade, any genre, you name it. If it strums your heart strings, we want to hear it. If you're not too much of a wuss, feel free to give a reason or two about WHY it's your favorite too.
