Happy Valentine's Day everybody. For the holiday, I've taken the time to actually POST something. I know, I know ... it's not a REAL post but it's a POLL which everyone seems to like more anyway. SO, in the spirit of things ...
What's your favorite love-story-type movie? Some might call them chick-flicks, or just sappy, romantic, heart-warming, etc. I think you get the idea. Feel free to choose from any decade, any genre, you name it. If it strums your heart strings, we want to hear it. If you're not too much of a wuss, feel free to give a reason or two about WHY it's your favorite too.
Posted by languorous at February 14, 2006 09:48 AMHa, I aint afraid of posting a sappy movie, so here goes!
"You've Got Mail" is my favorite sappy movie. Meg Ryan is so cute and loveable the whole flick and the story is enjoyable. Tom Hanks always plays a good part, and who else, Dave Chappelle has a small role :-) I like everything about this movie, and have caught it on at strange hours of the morning many times, and always watch it.
Honorable mention: "Debbie Does Dallas"
Posted by: Jon at February 14, 2006 09:57 AMThis is a toss up. First, there is "When Harry Met Sally". This is a good movie, not just some chick flick. Billy Crystal is always hilarious, and he plays off Meg Ryan very well.
The other is "You've Got Mail". Yet another Meg Ryan film-- this time she's opposite Tom Hanks.
Melissa and I can watch these on almost any occasion, and they never get old.
Posted by: Robb at February 14, 2006 10:02 AMTwo Fillmans ... three Meg Ryan movies. Jon and Robb are TOTALLY the same person, hahaha.
Posted by: languorous at February 14, 2006 10:31 AMHAHAHAHA! that is funny that we both picked the same movie. I didnt know Robb liked that flick.
Posted by: Jon at February 14, 2006 12:18 PMMy favorite is "An Affair To Remember"; it's my mom's favorite too, so I grew up watching it.
Posted by: Parker at February 14, 2006 01:01 PMHigh Society is definitly a favorite and it has an amazing cast: Grace Kelly,Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Louie Armstrong.... funny and romantic. Pretty woman is another classic, Julia Roberts is hilarious and I like the rags to riches story. And Far and Away is yet another good story with Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise... that one always gets me. Sorry I couldn't narrow it down any more.
Posted by: lindsay at February 14, 2006 04:10 PMThis might be the easiest post ever Tom. In part due to the fact there really is one romantic movie that I truly like. And that movie is (drum role please) Casablanca. Possibly because it has to do with history as well might be why I really like it. However there are many reasons as to why I like this movie but one word that sums all of them up is CLASSIC. I mean c’mon you got Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid BERGman. You also have a great song (As Time Goes By) later redone by good ol Mickey Blue Eyes himself. And finally think about the abundance of great movie quotes in American Film that originated from this flick. I will list a few just to refresh those that are rusty or have never seen this amazing classic.
1) “Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By’ or as later doctored in “A night in Casablanca” ( 1946 ) “Play it again, Sam”
2) “Here's looking at you, kid”
3) "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
4) "Round up the usual suspects."
5) "We'll always have Paris."
ALL THE GUYS WHO POSTED YOUR A BUNCH OF FAGS!!!!!!!!!!!
The best romance movie is Tin Cup. It always moves me when he keeps going for the green in two and Rene Russo tells him to go for it!
Posted by: Dopey 16 at February 15, 2006 06:59 AMI LOVE the movie 50 First Dates. Actually, I think that the ending stinks, because it is soo so unrealistic, much like the rest of the movie. Oh, wait, reasons I like it...right. Well, I love how Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler act together. I love love love Honolulu, and would give anything to go back. It makes me homesick for a place that was never my home :) It's a beautiful movie with the best scenery ever. Plus, it has lots and lots of happy romantic songs, not sappy ones, and I love that too.
I know I have more. I know I do. But, I can't think of them right now. I'll get another one on here :)
Posted by: Lori at February 15, 2006 06:48 PMOk really I am not into sappy movies and although I love Meg Ryan, You've Got Mail was terrible. If I had to pick my favorite "chick-flick" I would pick Steel Magnolias, but I think I am the only person on the face of the earth who actually likes that movie so since I would want to watch the movie with someone I would have to pick Can't Buy Me Love, Patrick Dempsey was hot even back then riding a lawn mower.
Posted by: Karen at February 16, 2006 12:45 PMTin Cup is possibly the biggest piece of doo doo butter I have ever laid had the displeasure of watching 15 minutes of and then turning off out of pure suck-ass-fullness.
Posted by: Anonymous at February 16, 2006 01:14 PMKaren, just so you know. I LLLOOOVVEE the move Steel Magnolias. And I also agree that Patrick Dempsey was hot from the get go :)
Posted by: Lori at February 16, 2006 02:18 PMFor some reason, I had a tough time with this one... but if I had to narrow it down to one, favorite love-story type movie, I would have to go with: Alfred Hitchcock's, "Vertigo"... starring, Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak.
Posted by: Christina at February 16, 2006 10:15 PMMy favorite love-story-type movie would have to be Natural Born Killers. Jon, you've got mail..... It's from the Stonewall in Allentown you fag.
Posted by: Kyle at February 17, 2006 11:18 AMDude, Im as straight as they come. And I am manly enough to admit I LIKE that movie. Its a good movie, have you ever seen it? I bet not. Next time you spend a friday night making out with yourself at home, throw it on!
Posted by: Jon at February 17, 2006 11:21 AMI've watched the movie with your mom on numerous occasions. Never made it to the end though..... I would agree that you're as straight as the men from the stonewall come, that's the extent of your straightness.
Posted by: Kyle at February 17, 2006 11:27 AMYoure an idiot! Im telling ya, watch the movie, its based on another movie or book I believe called "The shop around the corner". I bet youll like it, but be too afraid to admit it. Just like your afraid to admit how much you like to wear bright pink panties.
Posted by: Jon at February 17, 2006 11:36 AMHey, I love wearing bright pink panties, and sitting on a bright pink chair. The problem is, the bright pink panties don't give me the support I so sorely need. Also, I saw some of the movie.... It's crap. Absolute mindless drivel. The mere fact that BOTH you and Robb like it astonishes me, I thought at least Robb would have better taste. I think Barry should have slapped you guys around more when you were kids. I can almost see the marks on your neck where the choke collars were....
Posted by: Kyle at February 17, 2006 11:44 AMI don't suppose anyone has heard of 'Ice Castles'?????
