Okay, what's your favorite 80's cartoon? I can't believe I've never polled this topic! I know this might be tough so go ahead and give me a top three if you prefer.
Posted by languorous at February 20, 2006 10:59 AMDungens and Dragons, GI Joe, and snorkels... but there are so many good ones the only one I can remember not liking was the smurfs... creepy blue things with high voices... yuck! Definitely have to give props to Space Ghost coast to coast as well!
Posted by: Karen at February 20, 2006 04:01 PMHmmmmm, tough one, cause most of the cartoons I used to watch were the old school classics! However, I loved watching GI Joe "Knowing is half the battle!". Im not sure when Tiny Toons was around but I used to watch those as well. And when I was VERY young, I used to watch Alvin & the Chipmunks. "Alllllllllllvin!"
Posted by: Jon at February 21, 2006 09:48 AMTough one...their are so many good ones to choose from. The first two that come to mind are definitely the snorkels and the gummy bears. You can still catch the snorkels on the cartoon network occasionally! I also used to really like Alvin, Rainbrow Bright and the cartoons on the Disney channel.
Posted by: Aislinn at February 21, 2006 10:14 AMLet's see here ... first up, VOLTRON (the original with the big cats not that lame one with vehicles). I also was a big fan of the Thundercats, Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man, Dungeons and Dragons, Pole Position and The Gummy Bears.
Guilty pleasures: She-Ra and Gem And The Holograms, hahaha.
Posted by: languorous at February 21, 2006 10:40 AMThis is a toughy. Obviously Voltron and Transformers top off the list. I'll throw in the Visionaries as my dark-hourse third pic. Hard to argue with futuristic knights that transform into holographic animals emblazoned on their armor.
Do they have to be cartoons? Because otherwise, Fraggle Rock would definitely be up there.
Posted by: Jason at February 21, 2006 02:48 PMJ-- props for mentioning Fraggle Rock... they were undeniably the shit.
But, if I were honest... I would say that G.I. Joe wins this hands down. Snake Eyes, Duke, Wet Suit... versus amazing villains like Destro?!?!? There ain't nothin' better.
Posted by: Robb at February 21, 2006 03:00 PMFraggle Rock ... not cool, sorry. I'm not saying I didn't watch it ... but it was in NO WAY as cool as cartoons of the time.
Posted by: languorous at February 21, 2006 04:16 PMGummi bears, Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers, and Space Ghost were favorites. But I think I watched more cartoon movies (of the disney variety) than I watched TV cartoons.
Posted by: lindsay at February 21, 2006 05:00 PMFraggle Rock was so good-- that it didn't even belong in such a dismal decade.
Posted by: Robb at February 21, 2006 09:59 PMWow, I might be dating myself here but I have not even seen most of the cartoons that were mentioned.
I was never a huge cartoon fan, nad the ones I enjoyed I beleive are from the 70's.
Chilly Willy, Woody Woodpecker, Flinstones, and Karen's favorite the creepy blue things - Smurfs. My whole house and college dressed up as the Smurfs for Halloween one year. We won a prize for the costumes.
Posted by: dopey 16 at February 24, 2006 10:10 AMFraggle Rock was not a CARTOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: no your cartoons at February 24, 2006 10:11 AMIdiot! You used the word "no" in place of the word "know" in your "Posted By." What a dumbass.
Posted by: Robb at February 25, 2006 09:05 AMIt is a PUN you Dumbass or MR. ENGLISH NO(KNOW - just in case you did not get it this time) IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: no your cartoons at February 25, 2006 10:21 AMI loved cartoons... my favorites from back in the eighties were : Alvin & the Chipmunks, The Care Bears, and Belle & Sebastian!
Of course there are loads moreI love, such as Rainbowbright, The Smurfs, Get-Along Gang, Lady Lovely-Locks, camp Candy, strawberry shortcake, etc.
Pun - A play on words wherein a word is used to convey two meanings at the same time.
A proper example of this is best shown in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," where Mercutio has just been stabbed, knows he is dying and says, "Ask for me tomorrow and you shall find me a grave man."
Mercutio's use of the word "grave' renders it capable of two meanings: a serious person or a corpse in his grave.
Your use of pun is erroneous. For example, "no" and "know" are homonyms-- but that is all. The phrase "know your cartoons" would be a fine statement. But, "no your cartoons" makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
But don't feel bad, an idiot such as yourself may try and pun me again with "no you're cartoons!" Damn, you really got me with that one. Stingaaaaa!
