box set poll

This was spurred by a recent conversation I had while at a client ... if you could own any box set, what would it be? Responses can include:

TV, DVD, CD, book, periodical, etc.

A box set that is or is not currently for sale.

A box set that you already own.

Any collection, compilation, compendium, etc. that you feel is worth owning above all others.

1.) The Beatles Anthology (not just the actual Anthology, but their entire collection of studio works, outtakes, live concerts, video footage, etc.)

2.) The Norton Anthology of Literature (they gather all the classics of one genre and throw them in a tome. I wish I had them all-- because having to buy them individually is expensive.

3.) hmmmm.... i'll get back to you on the third.... i have it down to a few :-)

I'm really struggling with this one.

I think I have to include a Kurt Vonnegut collection with all of his novels, short stories, interviews, speeches, illustrations, etc.

I'd also have to have a collection of every Image comic book ever made. As a kid who was always into art and just getting into comics when Image was founded in the early 90's, I would love to be able to go back and read, from beginning to end, every story arc that Image published.

In a related collection, I'd love a print of everything Alex Ross has ever done (in any medium but especially with a paint brush).

While I haven't listened to him on a regular basis in the last five years or so, I'd love a COMPLETE collection of everything that Benny Goodman has ever recorded.

I feel like I could go on forever but I'll stop there.

Yeah good God, there are a billion and one sets I think are worth owning!

From a musical stand point, I would have to agree with Robb on "The Beatles Anthology". I would also throw in "The complete Hank Williams collection". Much of the music that has come out in the past 50 years has been influenced by one of these two artists. I'll throw in Queen's "The Crown Jewels" as honorable mention. Their sound really helped definite 70's rock.

DVD's, hmmmmm. Tough call, I like a lot of different shows, yet I dont think one is that much better than the other culturally speaking. Im definitely looking forward to grabbing "Boston Legal" when it comes out, as I havent seen all the episodes. Everyone should own the "Star Wars" original trilogy.

oh wait, one more thing. You really arent a man if you dont possess the Halo Trilogy, with the third game arriving later on this year hopefully :-)

I also would like to own the entire Magic: the Gathering Alpha set. :-)

I'd like to eventually own all the Seinfeld seasons, The Soprano's, and of course Sex and the City.
As far as books go, right now I can only think of the Lord of the Rings trilogy (+ The Hobbit).
