bad, bad ebay

Once I start, it's VERY hard to stop.

It's been a couple months since I checked out Ebay with any real interest. At the request of a client, I checked out what's involved in starting your own "store" one night and since then, I've been on it several times a day.

A week and seven winning bids later, I'm officially addicted. I'll stop. Really, I will ... once I own one of EVERYTHING! :-)

Believe me, I know the feeling. Fortunately, while I find lots that I like and lots to bid on, my better judgement sets in before I bid TOO seriously.

Tangentially: It's really remarkable how much some people will pay for, well, anything.

I, too, was an e-bay addict from about december 2003- March 2004... i got a pair of columbia boots, which are great, but my little obsession w/ebay was cut short when I thought I was getting a great deal for a "burberry" scarf. To make a long story short, i paid $90 (usually 150-210) for a fake, hand-knit scarf that was falling apart when I opened the package.
Ebay is good for books, electronics, selling your old junk, etc... but if you're not a girl who likes bags & designer items, you're safe.

Ha, yeah, it seems like everyone has at least one ebay-related horror story but I've been pretty pleased with my purchases. The hardest part is knowing which items are too good to be true and just avoiding them instead of taking the risk. For example, it's my general policy to avoid buying media (CD's, DVD's. etc.) from sellers located in Malaysia, Hong Kong, etc. no matter how cheap they are.

Those of you reading this blog from those areas, no offense but you don't acknowledge intellectual property rights and I just don't trust you. Plus too many fools with backpacks full of home-burned movies have ruined it for everyone :-)

I thought you already had one of everything.

It's true, it's true...I have never been on EBay.

I certainly don't have one of everything.

I'm sorry, you're kidding, right? You really haven't been on eBay?? Am I the only one that finds this news hard to believe??? There are people in America that haven't been on eBay????

EBAY is God's gift to the internet. I do find it remarkable that Lori has never been on ebay, yet I remember how many years it took me to take a trip out of the tri-state area :-)

sidenote to Gar: your internet connection is weaker than Michael Jackson's case (if I mention Gar's poor wireless connection enough places, maybe he will DO something about it) :-)

I really have never been on EBay. No joke. I had a problem with spending in the past, and decided it was better to steer clear. Clearly, from some of these examples, this was a wise decision ;)

It's okay, Lori; I haven't been on either.

Wow ... see, I've bet they've got lots of b&w pics for CHEAP :-)
