Alright guys, I've got a plan. It's fairly simple and straightforward so here goes ...
We're moving to The Shire! Who's with me??
I've been inlove with this sort of old cottage type home ever since last summer, when I attended a friend's wedding in England. The reception was in her family's house, which I realized was older than my country. Utterly charming, complete with a thatch roof.
However, the concept of fabricating a community like this creeps me out almost as much as Celebration, Florida - the town built and owned entirely by Disney, where they truck in leaves from New England in the fall, and the streetlamps emit foam-bubble "snow" in the winter:

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that I gave my cousin and her family a hard time for moving into a "housing community" right outside of Hilton Head after I heard some of the "rules" about what they could and couldn't do with their property. However, as I have grow older and have seen my neighborhood deteriorate before my eyes, I can understand the allure of some regulation.

The Shire is pretty freekin cool. Im waiting for a "Wild West" version, saloons, bonnie and clyde, everything :-)
I have to ask: How on Earth did you come across The Shirt, OR?
That said, dibbs on the one that looks like Frodo's house in 'The Lord of the Rings' movie...
Posted by: Gar at September 15, 2006 06:02 PMI caam totally down with living in this alternate reality.
but, might i interest you in joining me in what I like to call, the "urban shire"?!?!? http://www.allentownpa.org/
Posted by: Robb at September 15, 2006 07:14 PMRob, the mere fact that your neighbors are hobits does not mean that you live in The Shire.
Posted by: Jason at September 15, 2006 09:11 PMI would totally dig living in some sort of period style housing development. For the sheer joy of it. I might even dress like em.
