I had heard of an American Express "Black" card years ago in conversation at Lehigh (University) and then again when I started working for a client that caters to some very big spenders.
Today, someone called me and told me all about how he hung out with a guy the previous night that actually had an Amex Black card and even took it out and let everyone around him hold it. This got me thinking about that fabled card and the mystery surrounding it.
Wikipedia to the rescue - Amex Black
Posted by languorous at July 18, 2006 08:44 AMThat's awesome; I too had heard tell of the Black Amex, but never took the time to look it up, nice detective work.
How cool would it be to whip out one of those to pay for your groceries?
Posted by: Gar at July 18, 2006 06:43 PMThanks for posting this; I had never heard of the Centurion card. Wikipedia says they're going to switch them from plastic over to titanium – now THAT'S how to pay for dry cleaning.
Posted by: Jason at July 19, 2006 11:35 AMThe card is very real. I worked for someone last year who had it... It's this ridiculous invite-only card, that you have to spend something insane like 100,000 on just dining/entertainment only every few months. I also saw it on "Real housewives of orange county" (okay, okay stop the laughter)...some guy on there was buying furniture and just because he had that card, they opened the store just for him, after hours.
Must be nice, huh?
DAMN, that is sweet. I had heard of it too, always assumed it was true, but never researched it. So of the group who visits chasm, you think anybody will ever obtain one? If I ever got one, I would so go charge a cheeseburger at McDonalds with it. HAHAHAA
