out of the loop

Alright, I'll admit it ... I used to know everything that was going on in the Star Wars Universe. That was a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away?). After the last two movies were, in my humble opinion, lackluster at best, I had even lost my interest in seeing the final film. That sentiment has since changed.

I just read an article on CNN.com about how lucrative the franchise has become. This, in turn, led me to the Official Star Wars Website to check out the trailer for the next movie which, finally, has a firm release date of May 19th (not too far from now).

Watch the trailer and DON'T get excited, I dare ya.

I sincerely hope that this final movie is better than the previous two. I just hope that viewing the trailer hasn't set my expectations too high. The trailer certainly hints that it might be the biggest, baddest of them all and I'm looking forward to it with those expectations.

Let's be honest, can expectations BE to high for this movie? The conclusion to the largest media franchise ever SHOULD be the best movie ever, no??

I took a look at the trailers and I do agree, the movie looks like it should be amazing. However, to shed the pessimistic light onto the subject, expectations CAN be too high and often are. As for the conclusion "to the largest media franchise ever" I can only say should be and will be are two totally different things. I agree this movie SHOULD be big, I mean huge, kinda like my........uhh...feet...my feet. Right. Ok, however, I have been let down many times before and have now come to believe that most movies beyond the original, in this case the first five, seem to be let downs. While the first three (or the last three in the series) were the best performance was down for the last two (the first two in the series). So when asked, "What do expect from this one?" I simply say, "I dunno. George has got me guessing." Never the less, I don't think that the attendance for this will be any lower than the last two even though they were sub par.

I'm VERY excited by the new Star Wars movie, and have been following a good bit of the hype leading up to it. I've got to say, though, that the trailers for the LAST two movies have rocked my socks as well, and look what happened there. See also: The Matrix Sequels.

I still can't wait, though.

On another note, there are DVD images floating around on the net of the original trilogy ripped from the Laserdisc versions. All of the digital remastering and high resolution, and none of the "new and improved" crap that Lucas forced into the re-releases. I'd say that I'm trying to get copies as we speak, but that would be ILLEGAL! I'd never do anything like that!
