poll time

Alright, it's been quite a while but it's poll time again. I've been wanting to ask this one for a while but never got around to it. I'm really not sure if this will be an easy one or not but I certainly have my answer all ready to post.

So, if you could croon by stealing someone else's voice, whose voice would you take? This question is partly motivated by people that watch American Idol and apparently aren't satisfied with their own voice or the voice of anyone else they've heard. They're insistent upon listening to Randy's and Paula's opinions as to what voice is "the best".

I, for one, have determined to make that decision myself ... no need to force anything on anybody ... I know what I like and even though it bothers me when people are too ignorant to talk about music intelligently, I'll take comfort in knowing that I chose what I like because I chose it, not because Randy and Paula said I should.

So, what've you got? If you could serenade your significant other, pump up your friends with a pop tune, honor someone with a musical tribute or just sing a beautiful melody to yourself in the shower, who's voice would you take?

gwen stefani or sheryl crow....not only can they sing, but they are both dead sexy. i decided to also take on their persona with their voice :) thank you very much :)

Okay, as much as I liked the early Sheryl Crow and I'm Man Enough (pun intended) to admit that I bought her very first CD, her voice / ear was horrible. It's still no where near my favorite but it's a LOT better now and I give her a lot of credit for improving.

There's something very sexy about Gwen's voice ... without the visual appeal of her body.

I would answer if I didn't know that this is just a platform for Tom to lord his vast knowledge of vocal qualities over us simpletons who are too ignorant to talk about music intelligently. ;-)

Wow ... inferiority complex much? I certainly don't need a formal "platform" to "lord" my "vast knowledge" ESPECIALLY to "simpletons" like Gar.

Gar, if you don't want to admit that you can't even name one singer by a name other than Bono, so be it. Don't go making lame excuses though :-)

BTW - this poll doesn't ask for who you think is the "best" voice in terms of pitch control, tonal quality, vocal timbre, etc. rather, just who YOU want to emulate if you could. This is an opinion poll ... if someone chooses to denigrate your opinion, simply defend it or ignore it but, and here's the tricky part, try to actually HAVE an opinion and then post it :-)

Wow, tough one cause I like different voices for different scenarios:

Serenading a significant other would have to be the one and only Dean Martin. I dont think any woman could resist Deano's sexy tone!

Standard Rock / Pop - Rob Thomas, he sings with some freekin amazing energy.... also dig Patrick Monahan of Train.

However if I wanted to just jam out and have a good time, I would definitely pick Toby Keith. I cant imagine having more fun than belting "Im just talking about Tonight", "I Love This Bar", or "Who's Your Daddy" in the middle of a rowdy bar room audience!

Yeah, I had a hunch it might be "TK" :-)

Posted by: languorous at March 10, 2005 03:46 PM

Easy-- the lead singer from THE DARKNESS! Just kidding.

But seriously, I would have to go with the rock tones of none other than John Lennon (minus the British accent).

minus the British accent? the ladies go wild for sexy accents :)

Posted by: Lori at March 10, 2005 04:55 PM

Ha, who WOULDN'T want to sound like that guy from the Darkness??

My answer is gonna have to be Rob Thomas, hands down. It doesn't matter what I'd want to sing. If my voice came out as though Rob Thomas was singing, it would be music to my ears. Great pitch, great diction / inflection, good range and sincere emotion behind every note gives Rob Thomas a voice that few can match.

He's not the lost member of the Three Tenors or anything but I've always wished that I could sing like he can.

As long as your singing is nothing like his new single, then I will listen. :-)

Posted by: Robb at March 10, 2005 05:45 PM

Sure, blah blah blah blah...

Anyway, it so happens that I do have a well thought-out and honest opinion!
And it is: Mark Knopfler.

DAG! Money fo' nothin' and the chicks fo' free!

Posted by: Robb at March 10, 2005 08:54 PM

I'm going with Janis Joplin

Posted by: Parker at March 11, 2005 08:39 AM

Hey is "Mark Knopfler" Marky Mark's real name?? Nah, that's not it (although you'd make a bitchin' Gar and the Funky Bunch) ... I must admit that I had to google for it and I'm still not sure I have the right guy. Is he the guy at mark-knopfler.com? Is that the same guy from Dire Straits?

Posted by: languorous at March 11, 2005 08:44 AM

OK, this was a tough one. For overall crooning goodness, I'm going to have to go with Gene Kelly. The man had a helluva voice. As for why I singled him out, I'm really not sure, other than the fact that I've had "Singin' in the Rain" stuck in my head for a while.

As a backup, I'm going to go with Alan Rickman. This is a purely peer-influenced choice, since most of my female friends dig the growly thing that he's got going on. I should start smoking.

Yeppers, He is definitely of Dire Straits fame. Cool guitar player, did the song "Sultans of Swing" :-)

Posted by: Jon at March 11, 2005 02:56 PM

I would want to sound like Whitney Houston or Maureen McGovern. Both have great range and tone quality. But Mike likes the way I sound now:-)
