Look, if you love America, you watch playoff baseball regardless of if your team made it or not. Sure, other sports might be faster and even more entertaining but there's nothing more suspenseful as extra innings baseball and the Red Sox and Yankess have supplied plenty of "bonus" baseball in the last two days. I've lost countless hours of productivity watching a total of eight "extra" innings in the last two days but I don't regret it ... I feel as though I'm watching history-in-the-making and that I'll look back on these games nostalgically in years to come.
I don't even like the AL and I plan to root against them in the World Series but there's no mistaking it, the Boston vs. NY rivalry IS the best rivalry in sports today.
Disagree? What do YOU think is the best rivalry in sports right now?
In the words of my favorite Defective, (Defective Fillmore), NO DOUBT!
Posted by: berg at October 19, 2004 11:47 AMTo be honest, I will be a disappointment here. Sports are not really my thing, I'm afraid that I don't have a favorite rivalry. My boyfriend doesn't really help me to learn more either. But, if you need comments on camping stoves and other assorted gear, or books...I'm your gal ;) Mostly, I wanted to comment because I hadn't done so yet.
I really dig the pictures too :)
Posted by: Lori at October 19, 2004 07:23 PMI have two questions. Can I add comments to old entries? I had some for the "I miss the glory days of high school and college posting". I have to say, I will throw a curve ball in there and disagree wholeheartedly with you. Also, if I do add a comment "late", so you know it is there when you log on? Sorry....first time on here :)
Posted by: Lori at October 19, 2004 07:33 PMhey, thanks for commenting, get on your slacker friends to do the same :-) Don't worry about the sports posts, they aren't that frequent. As for posting "late" ... not really. I set the site to disable the older posts because spammers comment in old posts and that pisses me off. SO, try to post within the first week or two.

Posted by: Jason at October 20, 2004 09:45 AMThe best rivalry in sports has to be the Florida State VS. Miami college footbal rivalry. I believe the winner of that game since 1987 has won or been in the National Champoionship 10 out of the last 17 years. The great games, the missed field goals (ooh, too many to count), the fights, and the sh*t talking could you ask for anything more. College rivalries are always better than professional ones because the game is still purer, also more emotion from the fans and the players.
Posted by: Yossarian 16 at October 20, 2004 11:15 AMSee, there's no question that college rivalries are typically better rivalries, however, right now, there aren't any good college rivalries. Michigan vs. Ohio State football is the BEST rivalry of all time, but not right now. FSU vs. Miami is also a good rivalry, but not right now. Sox vs. Yanks is the best rivalry, especially after the Sox just forced a seventh game, right now.
Posted by: languorous at October 20, 2004 11:36 AMThat is a bias statement. There is no way that the Michigan Ohio State is a better rivalry than FSU Miami. More national championships have been decided by this rivalry than any other rivalry in the country. Yes, Michigan Ohio State is a good rivalry but not the best. Your post asked for what is the best rivalry, if you only wanted one that was happening right now than why ask? Of course it is the BOSOX and STANKEES it is the only one going on right now. Basically, why ask the question???????
Posted by: Yossarian 16 at October 21, 2004 08:34 AMokay, fine, by "now" I mean in recent history ... the last couple times the teams have met or a potential upcoming game between two typical rivalry teams that MEANS something. If I'm biased about Michigan, why would I listen to you regarding Florida St?? First off, it's like the Yankees and Boston of 5 years ago ... too one-sided to be a rivalry. Florida St. would actually have to start BEATING Miami to be a rivalry again. RIGHT NOW, Miami OWNS Florida St! Basically, if all you're gonna do is shout FSU everytime I ask a sports question, WHY ANSWER?????
Why Answer, you ask???? Your first comeback was about Michigan, so maybe you should ask yourself the same question. The only reason I mentioned FSU Miami is because I really belive it is the best rivalry.
Posted by: Yossarian 16 at October 21, 2004 11:07 AMFor God's sake, don't get so damn defensive all the time. I mentioned Michigan as a simple point of reference, not a damn "comeback" and let the record show that Michigan vs. Ohio St. was actually picked by ESPN a couple years ago as the best rivalry in the country. I'm not attacking you or FSU so chill. I'm simply stating a fact ... you can't have the best "rivalry" (currently) when Miami has beaten FSU five straight times!
