Favorite

Periodically, I'm going to poll the chasm audience for their favorite this or that. Today, comic book character. Sure, you might never have read a comic book, for shame, but I'm sure you know a couple characters. Tell ya what, I'll include cartoon characters as well. We've all seen cartoons, right? SO, comment your favorite character and book / series. A reason or two for your selection would be nice plus commenting on other people's selections will be half the fun :-) I'm still deciding on mine but I'll comment my choices later today. Go at it!

Ok, I may change these later, but Ill pick both a comic and a cartoon character. Comic award goes to Wolverine of Xmen. Cmon, what is cooler than his tough guy, sarcastic persona, and the man/creature has blades that come out of his hands! Cartoon character, has to be Bugs Bunny. His witty comments still crack me up.
Honorable mention to Vampirella for her... um... hahaha

Jon: I think you mean her vast tracts of land.

This is a good question. I'm going to have to go with Elijah Snow from Planetary. He's a hundred years old and doesn't age. He's a crotchety, grumpy, mean guy who has the power to freeze things at a distance, but tends to prefer kicking baddies in the unmentionables. And oh yeah, he leads an underground foundation tasked with investigating and setting right the secrets of the world. Did I mention he can freeze the water molecules in your brain from a hundred paces?

Cartoon character? Bugs is a really good pick. Other than that, maybe the title character from Invader Zim. No, wait. Bender from Futurama. No question.

Alright. Since we are picking our favorite, and not necessarily the "coolest" or "most powerful" comic book character ever created... I would have to go with (please, cue his entrance music)-- The Flash! I mean, c'mon. Barring that lame and disappointing portrayal of him in 1980 I would have to say he is one of my faves. Captain America, Daredevil, and Nightcrawler are close seconds...

And for cartoon character, C. Montgomery Burns (from the Simpsons) gets the honors. Bugs is great, but even he cannot compare to the richest 104 year-old man in Springfield. Ahoy hoy! :-)

Flash addendum:

Also-- I am aware that The Flash character is not the same as "Flash Gordon" (the movie from 1980). But the Flash's good name was tarnished by the release of this movie... and probably resulted in DC killing him off in the mid 80s (I believe 1985 to be exact).

Flash Gordon was a flaming excuse for a super hero (and debuted around the same time as the true FLASH in the early 40s).

I just wanted to clarify my earlier comments.

Rob, the real question is what did you think of the short-lived CBS series?

How can one pick a single favorite comic book character? A very daunting task, but I'll try: Dr. Doom. Tragic anti-hero background story, great combination of scientist/philosopher personality, and a giant metal suit with sonic blasters in the arms! Doesn't get much better than that.
As for cartoon characters, I have to go with Wile E. Coyote; classic!

Jay: There was a glimmer of hope-- the chance for Flash to once again dive into the mainstream, to relive the glory days when Flash was on every newspaper, television screen, and lunchbox... it was the chance to appeal to an entirely new generation of fans...

Thousands awaited his return... But it was not meant to be... for one simple reason... IT SUCKED.

I would have to say that my favorite super hero would have to be Night Crawler. He is awesome, he appears then disappears then appears again. How exciting! You'll never know where he'll be next. Plus, in X2 he was absolutely incredible.
